Undercutting a teammate

During the football season many have been hurt, one in particular, Keshaun Sallons. A sophomore at Desert Vista, also known as Kj, was in an accident on the field leaving him with a concussion.

He is on the Junior Varsity football team, with number 84. During practice on Oct.19, he was pummeled by teammate Landon Fuller.

“He went up to catch the ball and Landon went under him, under-cut and he fell”said, Jared Kincade.

Kj will be on the bench for the rest of the season. The trauma to his head has been diagnosed as a grade three concussion, which is the most severe.  Level three includes, having some amnesia and lasts a lot longer than grade one or two.  While talking to him he had said he experienced memory loss multiple times lasting for hours on end. Also experiencing severe and painful headaches, most commonly in night.

Kj went to the athletics consultant, Steve Bacca, who prevented him from taking any medication because it could affect his memory as well. He did not skip any school regarding the injury, he had trouble focusing and spent several classes in the nurse’s office.

Kj still supported his team by going to all their practices and games to cheer them on. Since the football season is over he never had a chance to play one last game. Though, he assures us all that when his concussion is gone he will be back on the field, ready to dominate the new storm season!
