Serving their Way to the Top

The desert vista varsity volleyball team went up against the hamilton huskies. Our varsity team has a variety of sophomores to seniors. None of them have scholarships, yet.

“None of the boys are ready or have any I mean one of them could have one soon but aren’t old enough.” Said the coach

The starting line up was #3 Dane Cunningham, #4 Mason Harbertson, #6 Nick Heeres, #7 Isaac Skidmore, #8 Jaden Rollins, #12 Landon Fuller, #9 Evan Johnson, and the huskies #1 Aiden, #2 Kaden, #5 Andrew , #8 Tate, #11 Cooper, # 12 Mitchell, and #4 Jorden. The ball started with D.V, after a quick volley we scored a point. We lost the ball but managed to get it back quickly for a while until 1 missed a serve. Putting us at 8-7.

“Our serving was an advantage during the game, since we had a lot of corner hits.” Said #3 senior Dane Cunningham.

D.V had the serve, #6 Nick but we had several volleys that had gave us one point and back and forth between who had the ball, it got so intense to keep track of who had the ball.

“It does get intense, everything happens really fast.” Said by junior #6 Nick Heeres.

Time flew with the score at 16-11. We were still winning and almost to the end of the match. The last part of the game had our setters and blockers at their best especially by #8 Jaden in the end having 4 blocks and 1 hit perfectly landing in the middle as an ace. Ending match one at 25-16.

“I think that we excel in blocking and serving but our passing needs work.” Said by junior #8 Jaden Rollins.

At the second and last match Hamilton came back with a fight. We ended with constant volleys and blocks. Our very own #3 Dane Cunningham had a killer serve that broke several ties we kept getting into. We finally won but by a few points 25-23.
