Cheer goes to State

The 2017 Cheer State Championships were this past week on Saturday, January 14, 2017. The team placed top ten at State Qualifiers, placing 7th at the competition. According to Ms. Fischbeck the Cheer coach here at DV, the team practices 4-5 times a week for 2-2 ½ hours.

As the competition approached they practiced on Saturday’s too along with cheering on their in-season sport. To prepare for the competition they focused on all components of cheer; cheering, stunting, tumbling, and dancing.

“While every teammate has their own roll, we work to move as a unit.” says Ms. Fischbeck, the DV cheer coach.

Even though they had tons of practice, there were still some suspicions that they were not going to do good due to their performance at Friday’s pep assembly. While many had these fears, one person did not.

“I knew this year would be a very special one prior to us going into the competition. Our program has been evolving in this past two years; qualifying/competing at the State Championships for the first time, 2017,” Ms. Fischbeck said. “This is also the first year our team went co-ed. In addition, we have been feeling the love from the teams we cheer for. We love cheering you ladies on- and were so happy to have your good luck wishes and support!”

Now just because it was the Varsity girls that made State, the JV and Freshman teams were still very happy and supportive of Varsity. After all they are one big team.

“I’m very happy for Varsity, they have been working really hard, they deserve it” says Sophia Erramuzpe.
