DV Track

Track and field season is here! Over 350 students have signed up and are out at the track getting ready for a great season. The athletes this year are determined to give their all for the season. Many of them from the various events are looking toward some great races.

Junior Brooklyn Hanania is participating in the 3200m, the 1600m, and the 800m for distance running. She is looking forward to competing and getting to know her teammates better. She has big goals for this season and is ready to put in the effort to get there.

Senior Logan Hays, a pole vaulter for the past four years, prepares for the upcoming season and its experiences. “I’m looking forward to making new friends and enjoying my last high school season with the friends I have. Track practice and meets are so much fun when sharing it with others; playing music, making jokes, sharing successes, etc,” says Hays. “My goal is to just have lots of fun, to work as hard as I can, and to serve as a role model for the younger vaulters. It’s a great event and people need to keep it thriving no matter how scary it looks to others.”

Benjamin Sklodowski jumps into the season with the 110m hurdles, the 300m hurdles, and the 4x400m relay. It’s his senior season and he is looking to break the school records, and be first at state in his individual events.

Head coach Tory Tyler looks forward to the track season all school year. “Track and Field is unique in the sense that there is an event for everyone and everyone is welcome!” says Tyler. “We host several home meets throughout the season and we would love more support from the student body. Come out and see what we do and why our program is one of the best in the state. Go Thunder!”
