American Horror Story is well into its fourth season “Freakshow”, but the series may soon be coming to an end. After the current season finale, leading actress Jessica Lange will be leaving the show. With the increasing popularity of the show, here’s an overview of all four seasons.

WARNING: Major spoilers ahead!

Season 1: Murder House

After Vivien Harmon (Connie Britton) discovers that her husband is having an affair, Ben Harmon (Dylan McDermott), a psychologist, tries to save his family by moving them all from Boston to Los Angeles. What the Harmons don’t realize is that the 1920s house is haunted by all of the previous owners, who have all died inside the house. Ben’s daughter Violet (Taissa Farmiga) soon meets and falls in love with one of her dad’s patients, a boy named Tate Langdon (Evan Peters). When mysterious things start to happen around the house, past residents come out and try to scare away the new family.

Season 2: Asylum

Set in the 1950s, Kit Walker (Evan Peters) is charged with killing his wife and then admitted to Briarcliff Manor, a mental asylum. Kit claims he’s innocent and soon finds that something’s wrong inside the asylum. It has nuns who are possessed by the devil, patients who disappear without a trace, and doctors in the sanitarium performing deadly surgeries on unwilling patients in the basement. Lily Rabe plays Sister Mary Eunice, a seemingly innocent nun who has an evil interior, while Jessica Lange plays Sister Jude, a devoted nun who tries her best to keep the terrible practices of the asylum under wraps, in her own brutal ways.

Season 3: Coven

When Zoe Benson (Taissa Farmiga) discovers she has the powers of a witch, she travels to New Orleans to attend Miss Robichaux’s Academy and join other female witches from a coven that dates back to the time of the Salem Witch Trials. As the witches struggle to survive, they battle against their arch enemies, voodoo witches dating to the 1830s. Fiona Goode (Jessica Lange) is the supreme, a witch that embodies all seven powers that she can have while also controlling and ruling the coven. When the new supreme admits she’s dying, the young potential witches must battle to take the title of “Leader of the Coven”.

Season 4: Freak Show

In Jupiter, Florida in 1952, conjoined twins Bette and Dot (Sarah Paulson) are accused of the brutal murder of their mother, who kept them hidden away in the house their entire lives. After being admitted to a hospital, a German woman named Elsa Mars (Jessica Lange) pays them a visit, where she promises them a life of adventure and fame if they follow her to the freak show she owns. Dot wants to live in the limelight, while her sister wants to stay as far away from it as possible. In the freak show, the twins meet Jimmy Darling, a boy with webbed, lobster like hands; Dell Toledo, the Amazon woman; and Maggie Esmeralda, a ‘fortune teller’ who secretly scams her customers. Mars has been trying to get on her feet as a successful Hollywood star, but when brutal slayings and murderous clowns terrorize the freaks, the whole show is threatened to shut down.

Season 5: Hotel

As of February 25, Fox has released news that the fifth season will be titled ‘Hotel’, with the leading role going to Lady Gaga. The new season is set to premiere in October of 2015.
