Desert Vista High School representing at All-State

Last month during March 3th and March 4th, auditions were held for music programs choir, band, and orchestra. In order to attend this highly competitive festival, it was mandatory to have participated in regionals (Desert Vista is a part of North Central region). For orchestra and band, auditions required 3 major/minor scales, 1 solo, sight reading, and excerpts provided. Choir required a solo and sight reading. Around 200 violinists participated, and only 44 will succeed in entering. This festival is for the best in Arizona, as more than 90 schools participated in auditions. Results have been released a while ago and now it’s time to participate in the festival.

“Auditions were a total wreck,” said volunteer Brian Kim. “someone leaked the violin sight-reading music and it wasn’t counted in the scores. So many people were a complete mess because they were so nervous. I know a freshman who didn’t eat dinner, breakfast or lunch [the next day] after the audition.”

All-State takes place in the Arizona State University Gammage. It will be held from Thursday April 6th to Saturday April 8th. Rehearsal will be all Thursday. Friday will be rehearsal, and solo and ensemble performances. Saturday will be rehearsal and the concert of all groups.

“I’m so glad to have made it again, said French horn player Kipper Gates. “All-state band is always the best experience for music-making and cooperation. I love sharing music with my friends, and this is the best place to do it.”
