Papers or pixels

You look out the cold window to see a grey sky. The sun is hiding and in its place are clouds whose water contents falls fiercely to Earth. So you grab your favorite novel off the bookshelf and proceed to head outside on the patio. You sit down and open the worn cover. The smell of nature and magic, the smell of dreams, the smell of books fills you up. So you proceed to read your favorite stories.

Can you get that same experience with an electronic book? Paper books have started to ‘go out of style’ and are replaced with pixelated prose. Although some may argue that carrying an iPad, Nook or Kindle with all of your favorite novels is more convenient, it is not as enjoyable. Paper books allow you to study with Hermione without having to figure out why the screen went black. They allow you to have tea with the Mad Hatter, or solve mysteries with Nancy Drew without having to find a charger and sit by an outlet because you realize the iPad is dead.

I once found a tree house with my friend Jack that was filled with books, and when we read them, we traveled in time to the story’s setting. We called it “The Magic Tree House.” I’ve never heard of e-books that can do this… In addition to taking you to really cool places, paper books can fill your home making it look and feel inviting. When living in a home where kids are surrounded with books, they have a chance to read whenever they crave an adventure.

Some say that paper books kill trees, but they are going to good use. Paper books allow us to record history without using technology that may break or become dated and old fashioned. Besides, reading a paper book always looks more impressive and studious.
