Rollercoaster Tycoon World Beta Review

Rollercoaster Tycoon World Beta Review

Rollercoaster Tycoon is one of those games that you will always remember even after you stop playing it for years. This is the same for me when I heard Atari was making a new one to be released in late 2015, which it never did.

The goal of the game is to run and manage a successful theme park, keeping guests happy while maintaining a budget with enough to pay back a loan each month. If you don’t want the stress of money holding down your creativity you can always go to sandbox mode for unlimited money and fun. These reasons all make Rollercoaster Tycoon one of the best games I have played, and I was overjoyed when a new one was announced after six years of being an abandoned project.

The past three games were incredibly amazing and fun, giving memories you will keep in your head. The first two were released in 1999 and 2002, they were two dimensional and were the best. The third one was a new take on the series being three dimensional. When you built your rollercoaster you could ride on it in first person and see the guests point of view.

Now with the new Rollercoaster Tycoon coming out naturally I wanted to play it. The only way to play was to sign up for the early access beta, which is what I did. Once the day came for a three day beta test for players to try out the game I got on and played one of the worst game I think I have ever played.

The things that made the past Rollercoaster Tycoons fun were completely looked over in the new game. Things like proper physics and coaster creation were horrible to control, it was near impossible to build a basic rollercoaster. The new coaster building tool is supposed to let players create the coaster of their dreams, but using it is their nightmare.

Another thing is that the terrain building tool is worse than the previous games. If you wanted to make a river and fill it with water the game would glitch out and water can flood your park. Plus along with that, the water looks horrible, even Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 had decent water graphics and it came out in 2006.

Also, there isn’t too many types of coasters to choose from. Wooden coasters and hyper coasters can be built but inverted coasters and launch coasters can’t be built. Along with that, the flat ride coasters look like they belong in the first rollercoaster tycoon.

This game had many people’s hopes up including myself, but once again Atari messed up. Planet Coaster, a new rollercoaster simulator, looks way more promising and will probably take all of Atari’s business unless they do some serious work on Rollercoaster Tycoon World.
