Pop Quizzes

Pop Quizzes

From elementary school through college, students are faced with their worst educational nightmare; pop quizzes. But there’s no point of them. Pop quizzes don’t benefit students academically, don’t further their education and are pointless.

Students typically don’t even get their quizzes they take back and instead their grades are dropped by these quizzes. Pop quizzes are given too early in a unit for them to be able to fully understand the material. Instead, students struggle to answer questions, which results in bad . and affects their letter grade in the class.

Pop quizzes also lower students’ self/esteem. Students feel like they aren’t smart and are behind in class. This doesn’t make them work harder, but instead causes them to struggle and feel down on themselves. Students may even stop trying in class because they feel they are too far behind.

These quizzes also raise anxiety in students and cause them worry. Pop quizzes are unfair to the students and stress them out, causing them to even do worse on the quiz!

It’s obvious that pop quizzes harm more than they help. They don’t show what the students actually know, but show what the students know when they are freaking out and don’t understand material. Students don’t usually receive the quizzes back, so they can’t learn from them. It causes anxiety and stress. They also don’t show their true understanding of the material and don’t benefit them in the classroom. They take away from valuable learning time and aren’t worth giving in classrooms.
